“If it was not for this program, I would not push myself out of my comfort zone and make myself do more than I thought I could.” - Kate Y. (Early Childhood Education)
Students enrolled in IHECP programs get to experience college life as any student does: by attending classes, completing homework, socializing with peers, and exploring campus. Those with learning, intellectual, or developmental disabilities may actually benefit more from these experiences than other students, as they:
- Promote self-sufficiency
- Prepare students for higher level employment
- Help students adapt to new environments
- Widen social circles
- Increase confidence in their own abilities
For many of our students, IHECP programs have enabled them to learn in a higher education setting that, without this support, they may have been excluded from in the past.
